Default Buying advice for 1981 928 please!

My father and I are currently looking at a 1981 Pacific Blue 928. It does not currently run but the owner told us his son got it to "drive" about a year ago. The original problem that put the car in storage is that it would drive fine until it suddenly cut off. We have been told there are numerous electrical problems that will need to be fixed. Otherwise the car is in pretty good condition. There are numerous places where paint has begun to peel and crack but that is not very important to us right now. The car has around 80k miles and the owner is asking 3000. Could someone please chime in with advice on common problems, what to look for, and whether or not this seems to be a fair price? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Here is a crappy cell phone pic to give you an idea of the car.

Default RE: Buying advice for 1981 928 please!

In non running condition with "multiple electrical problems" an 81 is not worth 3000 dollars. There is no telling motor condition without it running. For all you know, it could be something in the motor seizing up as it heats up and that is why it "cuts off".
1981 is not a desirable year if this will be our only 928. The later 4 speed autos are much better.
Put it this way, if you buy the car and put the time/effort/money in it to get it running you will still have a car that you can barely sell for 3000.

1500 is more like it.

With a non running car with misc problems you are going to have a lot of money into making it right. you can find running 1981 cars EASILY on ebay for 3000.

Make sure there is no rust starting around the rear side window seals or rear window area. There is no telling motor condition without it running.
