Hey all, Ill make it quick. Im looking for a daily driver. Nothing to fabulous just something I can have to have fun in. I recently found a 1985 944 basic model Porche in the local paper. I went to look at the car and meet the current owners.
-The cars body is incredible, interior has normal wear n tear for a car that old.
-The car starts. Runs well, and has no ticks, bang or plunks when running.
-The issues that the owners reported are as follows:

Odometer doesnt work, the passenger window doesnt come down (probably a bad motor), the wind shield wipers are constantly on due to a short in the motor. And the trunk of the vehicle has a short in the opening mechanism.
Other than that, there isnt anything else to note. What info I need from your guys is, Are these repairs going to cost me an arma and a leg to repair? And there asking price is 3500$. What is a fair price to offer these people? Or is this something I should avoid buying?? The owners say that the odometer stopped working at approximately 89K miles and they estimate the current mileage at less or about 100K miles. Due to the state that I live in I can put historic tags on the vehicle which would allow me to bypass fixing any of these things to put it on the road. So if anyone can assist me with answers I would appreciate it. Thanks

 

Early or late 1985,they had 2 models! The odometer is usually just a plastice gear that need to be replaced, Used window motor $50.00 but could also be the switch.Wipers constantly on usually switch(can't give you a price because it depends if it is early or late).As for the rear hatch, a lot of times the little plastic piece the the opening cable goes into has broken and fallen apart( $2 ).Big question.....when was the water pump and timing belts done? $3500 is an average price...but find out about the pump and belts, $$$$$ !!
