Default 1988 944S Brakes

Greetings,

I've had my 1988 944S for about 2 years now with no major problems. However, I was always suspicious about the effectiveness of brakes. When applied at maximum pressure, is the car supposed to come to a screeching stop? If so mine doesn't, it stops fairly fast but doesn't ever screech. Is this some type of an ABS mechanism to maximize the car's static friction?

The 944S should come standard with ABS IIRC, so you aren't going to lock them up. It could also be partially due to a poor compound brake pad.
