Default 22's on your 944!

I guess the Tourag wheels will fit our 944's. 5x130 bolt pattern. not sure what offset they use.

bling bling yo!

Since tire/wheel height for most sets of rubber for 944's are around 25.5" in diameter, going to a 22" rim will leave you with a sidewall height of around 1.5-2" tops. Any larger than that, and you'd have clearance problems.

Personally, 22's wouldn't be my cup of tea, I am quite happy with 17"s. Also, 22"s tend to add more load to the suspension and can lead to premature control arm and ball joint failures. Porshce recommends no larger than 17" for 944's and had a service bulletin out at their dealerships on this. Not knocking anyone that likes it, just giving a heads up that you will want to check your suspension every now and then if you go that route.

Your right Scott. On my 844, I was eating up wheel bearings every 6 months or so with my 17's (rears). On my rears i'm running 255/40/17's . I did a rear trailing arm conversion from an 88 turbo and haven't had a problem since.

I wouldn't mind running some 20's if I'm going to go to a car show. I was looking for some wheels for the track and stumbled across those wheels.

My current options are Enkie NT03+, but those are 18's. 21 pounds.

Or fuchs (spelling)....Parts heaven has some 15x7 / 15x8's for $900. They tell me their a forged wheel, but usually their shop is a bit overpriced. I don't care for the style too much, but I want a good wheel that will be good for the track. any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

22" rims seem a bit massive and crinos for this application. Although even I will admit the black on polish looked sweet, and would look even sweeter mounted on a 944/951. But once again I have to say 22" here is a recipe for disaster. First off the car is going to run much higher, that along with the suspension issues mentioned above you loose big-time in the handling department. Possibly even creating hazardous conditions for your components. Secondly what size tires do you plan on running on those? You do realize that eventually that becomes an issue? Lastly I just have to ask… what is with this pissing contest anyway? What is with the obsession with larger wheels!? It doesn’t make sense, you loose in almost every aspect once you exceed a certain point. The ride suffers most of all; I don’t know about you guys but I go on many an interstate trip in a year's time and I need a car that feels smooth on the road so I can stand those 10+ hour drives. The larger your wheels get systematically the smaller your tires become, the smaller your tires become you have fewer and fewer layers between you and the road. That equates to a ****ty ride. 18"s are even on the borderline in this dept, but for my overall effect it's what I have chosen.

Ryan,

Be careful what you put on your car, as you obviously figured out running the wrong offset will wreak havok on your wheel bearings.

As to the Fuch wheels, you want the 16" Fuch's, not 15"ers. The 16's are lightweight and forged, the 15's are not. The problem you will have an either case is that you have the wrong offset in the rear of the car, so you can't run either, to the best of my knowledge. And unless you also swapped out the front suspension or are running spacers, you will have the same problem up front. You should be running wheels with an offset of around 45-55 mm.

Hi Scott, I talked to Tire Rack today and was going to order the Kosei K1 Racing's in 16x7 front and 16x8.5 rears. The sales guy said I should run something like 13mm up front and 35mm in the rear. I only did the conversion in the rear. I was looking at about $800 with the custom offset and bolt pattern, plus shipping. I then called back and talked to another sales guy who had a 944 and he said that the bolt pattern won't fit on those wheels. I was bummed out. These wheels are 15.5 pounds each.

I talked to Parts Heaven and they want $1,000 for the fuch's, and that's used.

I'm just wondering if i'm going to notice a difference at the track. I currently have 17 inch wheels but they're damn heavy. I think like 28-35 pounds each. they're monsters.

btw, this is my 2nd choice. Enkei NT03+ but they only come in 18's. 21 pounds each though. this means i'll have to run a super thin side wall like 30 series, which will mean a rougher ride but maybe more power because their lighter? what do you think?

My rule of thumb is to make sure you run the same offset (minor variances allowed) all the way around, or you can get into some horrid tracking problems that can tear up your suspension and tires. The later suspension is nice to have all the way around, as it gives your car a wider track and gives better options for wheels, if you like the factory wheels. The guys at Tire Rack usually give good advice, but the first guy you talked with was smoking something. Ypu need to get some 21mm spacers for the front or else complete the conversion, and you will be a LOT happier with how your car feels going down the road.

As for running 18"s, you'll definitely feel them. I'd be happier with 16"s for street rubber, as they are far cheaper, are easier to find lighter weight combos, and they look "right" to me. I don't like the look of anything larger that 17"s on 944's, guess I am just showing my age, eh? lol

I like Enkei wheels a lot, they tend to be very light and I have a set on my '84 that I like. I know that you can find them in the right wheel lug size, 5 x 130 isn't that uncommon.

Regards,
