Default 944 fuel consumption...

Hey all;

My '86 944 just came out of the shop with a new head gasket, timing belt, tune up etc. The car runs absolutely great, like I remember my Dad's running in '86. Question is...I've gone through a full tank of gas in about 250 miles (city + highway), Seems like a lot to me. What do you guys get?

Yea, you should be getting a lot more than that. Have you replaced your O2 sensor recently? How about your tire pressures? Obviously how you drive the car has a lot to do with fuel economy. Highway driving, these cars will make over 30mpg all day long. Around town, expect 18-20.

I'll do the O2 sensor, the tires are fine, and perhaps I've been revving it a little higher than I'd usually (4 to 4.5K) I've been having fun with the car as the engine runs like new. I knew I'd take a hit on gas but didn't think it would be that bad. It's likely a combination of a few things I figure. I'll let you know.

Thanks.
