Default 944 turbo metal-to-metal

hey all,

I just purchased a 1987 944 turbo and it's been running beautifully just until a few days back when i noticed the oil pressure had dropped and the warning light came on. At the same time, i noticed a clanking noise from under the hood. I popped it and pinpointed it to the third cylinder. I refilled the oil but the clanking has subsided and of course it's not being driven now. I thought possibly a bad lifter but i don't know how that would be tied to the low oil.any help would be appreciated.
thanks
