Question Anti-freeze and oil don't mix well

'87 944 (non turbo/non S) with 23k miles on clock. overheated last year. Blew upper hose while on highway. Replaced hose and refilled radiator. Still running HOT. Had repair facility work on it and ran all last summer fine! Took from winter storage last week and overheated within 15 minutes of idle. Upper hose was "hard as rock" and hot!! Shut down had flat bedded home. Took to local repair facility and found coolant in oil (dipstick milky) and oil in coolant as well. Being told complete engine over-haul required at $4-5k to return to normal. Seems like a lot of $$$ to repair. Figure the car is worth $10k at "best" as like new condition. Any constructive comments are welcome! Thanks
