ORIGINAL: Over Boost
This car im looking at has been well taken care of but does have 170,000 miles. So seeing as the turbo will probably need a rebuild some time in the near future should I just buy a newer more modern aftermarket turbo?

RE: Any 951 tuners on here?
This isn't a bash at Tim/SFR at all, but wow... something bad happened on that one (and I am assuming you meant a 951, not a 944. If you mean a 944NA, I am calling bs on those hp numbers unless it is a bored out high compression track engine thats designed to run no more than about 25 hours between rebuilds). Vitesse has a package that includes a turbo, MAF, chips and a piggyback unit for $3400. Add #55lb injectors and a decent wastegate to that, and for $4000 you will get a proven 375rwhp (yes, I said rear wheel hp) at 18psi. Dial that down to something that is a lot more reliable on the street, like 15psi on pump gas, and you will still be in the 320rwhp range. By "proven", I mean dyno sheets available, with a number of folks that are running this system that will be happy to vouch for it. John from Vitesse offers some of the best service you will find, as well.
Like I said, this isn't a swipe at SFR. Tim makes nice products. I am guessing there has to be more to this story. Either the engine wasn't in good shape to begin with or perhaps the owner didn't plan out his purchases and would up swapping a bunch of different parts out before he reached his final result (kinda like the guy who's car has been featured in European Car recently).
Regards,
