maybe its not even the heater core....it wont blow any hot air even when the engine temp is good and warm. any ideas what it could be?

Is it leaking water? If not it is probably a stuck (closed)heater valve.

Check your heater control valve or the heater controls. The heater control unit that the cables clip into will get brittle over time and break, thus the cables don't move when you move the lever. I highly doubt there is a problem with the heater core.
