Hey guys, thanks for any and all help that comes from this post. I just bought an early 1985 model 944 with low miles. The car needs a lot but I need to get it dependable. It has a new battery and developed a sputter at low rpm and idle. I got in the car and accelearated through second and the sputter went away. When I got approximatly 6 miles down the road the sputter returned and the car died shortly there after I tried to get her to crank and she would roll over and try to hit like she is starving for gas and then she rolled really slow like the battery was gone and then nothing.I thought the alternator was gone so I caught a ride to get my trailer and bring her home. When I returned she started up and ran back to my house with nary a problem. I am at work on my ship at sea but on my return I want to get her fixed and drive it as my hemi truck loves gas too much. Can anyone tell me what a regular 944 gets for gas millage. I can be reached also at babieslucky@yahoo.com Many thanks to all who reply. Tom
I get 26 mpg in my early 85 when I normally dirve it to and from work. (between 70-80 mph) But only get around 22-23 in town driving.
Sounds like you may need a DMErelay, but there areseveral other possiblities. When you get back let us know.

I averaged 25mpg with my turbo this weekend going down to the lake. Average speed was over 100. If you drive around 80, you should see well over 30mpg on the highway. Around town expect around 20.
