Default First time buyer questions

Hi all,
I am considering purchasing a 944 as a project car. The things I have been reading said that a car that was well maintained and came with all the maintinance reciepts was more important then simply low millage. They were also saying that I should try to find one that recently had the clutch and timeing beltreplaced, if possible, as those repairs can be costly. What else should I be looking for?

Default RE: First time buyer questions

Yeah, maintenance receipts are important, however if I had a chance to buy a low mileage 944, I wouldn't write it off, I'd just give it a thorough inspection. Some of the key repairs to check is if the timing belt, water pump, and clutch have recently been replaced. I bought a 944 without thorough checking it over for rust, and come to find out my 944's floor pan, and rocker panels are just about totally rusted through, so needless to say, check for rust. To replace the timing belt and water pump is gonna be a bit pricey I think but I don't know exact figures and obviously the price is going to vary from mechanic to mechanic. If you want me to check the price I can look up a receipt that I have for my 944 and give you the price for that, but since my 944 is an auto I don't have a clutch to worry about obviously so I can't give you any help when it comes to the clutch. If you have any more questions, shoot.
Good luck,

Landen
