Default fuel consumption gauge on tack

seems to work internittently - has anyone had this condition and found a fix? Manual seems to indicate it issupposed to provide a constantreading at speeds above 10 mpg but it often does not operate. Tack is operational. thanks for any comments.

My needle plunges when I am driving uphill or stepping on the gas....seems like it is working like it should. Is that what you mean by intermittant?

no not what I meant - It works ok for a while then goes to not working at all for extended periods regardless of load on engine, acceleration, etc.
