Hi Guys, I have a 84 944, And i cannot get the sunroof panel to release.I have try doing it the way the manual say's to do it but no luck.

The arms at the rear of the sun roof have to be retracted all the way out of the roof itself. If the motor does not work this can be done manually with the little silver tool that is on the side of the sunroof.

 

Do you hear anything running? Can you see the arms retracting at all between the gap? Car are notorious for stripping the gears, so if there is noise, but the arms are not retracting, that would be likely. Gears are cheap.

 

They didn't start using the plastic gears until mid 1986,usually on the early models it is either the cable is binding or the plastic slide on the rail has gotten stuck under the rear microswitch at the end of the rail.
