Default Idle Speed?

Hi there, I am new here. Havebeen readingover the forums. You guys are really helpfull!

Ok, I have an 83 944.. I am wondering how many rpms it should be idling at.
When I stop at a red light it will go down to around 1100.. if I tap the gas soon after it will drop down to 900 or there about.
Is this normal?
My haynes manual is not very helpful on this.. it says for idle adjustments to take it to a dealer.
Thanks!

Idle should be 900 +/- 50 on the 944NA. I would guess you have a small vacuum leak or your TPS needs adjustment/replacement.
