Default Looking at an 84 944

Hear is my first question. I am looking at this car. It's in good shape. I know all the previous owners. It most likely needs a Timing belt, &Sunroof motor. It has new tires. New Clutch, and Battery. I can get it for $1200. I am going tobringittoa dealer to look at first. But, What would you pay for it if that's allit needs. It's been driven mainly by ladies very nicely for 74575 miles. Just starting to look for cars. Thanks for all your opinions up front.

Hi Pstores,
I don't know as much as the other guys around here, but I just got a Porsche 944 '85, for a $ 1000 with much more miles on it and more things to replaced. I did spent $1300 more and now the car is like a dream - will see how long it will last
I think that $1200 for a car with only 75000 ml is a great deal.
What is the overall condition - inside and outside ?! Is there good records for the jobs performed on the car ?!

Overall it's in great shape. No not much for records. 1st owner did what was suppose to be done up to 50,000. Next owner lost all records and did some things not all. This brought it to 72,000. Next has no clue but put clutch in it. Any other thoughts?

I would say - go for it ! The new belt and water pump will cost you about $800 more. It has a new clutch on it - that's very good.
If the car really has only 75K on it, it sounds like a great deal to me.
I got mine in much worst condition than your car and I am the happiest man right now - this Porsche is better than everythingI have driven before ! It handles like it is on rails - just amazing.

I think I am going to get it. Porsche quoted me 13.5 hours labor. 2215.00 to have it installed. I'll still have 3400 into it. But, I know what has been done. I set up a PPI with them today.

wow, $2215 sounds pretty high to me ! What are they going to change ?!
One of the best Porsche mechanics around changed all belts ( including timing), water pump, all engine seals and the radiator of my Porsche for $ 1300 !
I would like to hear what the guys around would say about that !

I think that you are going to enjoy the car enormously

2215 at one dealer and 1975 at the other. That would be the Water pump, Timing Belt, And another belt he said it may or may not need. 13.5 hours labor at 120 an hour at the cheaper one.

Yeah, that's lots of labor at an astronomical rate ! Why don't you ask around for other mechanics.
The guy who worked on my car charged me for 8 hours at $60 an hour + the parts. At the end it was $1300 and this includes the tax.

Hey, the guys around here !

Book time on the waterpump, timing belt, etc is 9-10 hours. In reality, it takes about 3.
