Default Looking for advice

I own an 86 951. Due to age and a rough ride on the back of atow truck my tail pipe has broken off of my muffler. I am planning on replacing the muffler as well as the tail pipe but am considering a catback system. Does an aftermarket catback system offer any performance advantage? I have heard arguments on both sides. Also, what systems do you guys use? I use this car as my daily driver so I don't what anything too loud. I am having trouble deciding between aftermarket and stock.

I would say if you want to take an inexpensive route you can stick with your stock exhaust and gut your catalytic converter. You'll get a bit out of it and you'll have a better exhaust tone. The best thing for exhaust tone is all done on the negative pressure side of the motor. Have you modified your intake at all?

Hp and tone improve if you gut the cat and increase pipe diameter on a turbo car.

Yup, can't go wrong with a Fabspeed 3" system. Due to the downpipes collapsing coming off the turbo, and studs breaking, etc, I had Joe make up a new 2 3/4" downpipe (stock replacement) for us 944 turbo guys as well. I need to check fitment, but once that is done, it will be released to the public.

Thanks for the information. Due to cost restraints and other work that needs to be done to the car, I think for now I am only going to change the muffler and tail pipe. Also order a new tip. Any suggestions on mufflers? I have heard good thing about Magnaflows.

either go stock or Fabspeed--you can't go wrong.

Out of curiosity, Has anyone compared the Fabspeed 3" system to the Speed Force Racing 3" system with the Borla XR-1 muffler as far as sound and quality?

If you are facing some problem in your truck then you should check it from the mechanic before it cause a serious problem otherwise you may have to face an accident.
