maintenance items
Okay, I've been reading some posts on here about timing belts on these beasts. I just bought a 1986 944 turbo with 83,000 miles. Timing belt, balance belt, rollers and water pump replaced at 64,000 miles, then timing belt service done at 74,000 miles. Does this sound okay??

RE: maintenance items
Hi Doc,
Looks like they were replaced over 10 years ago.... then the timing belt service done about 4 years ago. Maybe I should just do it again to be safe. What would you expect the cost should be roughly?
Thanks,
Bill

RE: maintenance items
Oh dear lord, don't start the car until you change the belts. 10 years is WAY overdue, no matter what mileage are on them. Belts and rollers are 4 hours plus parts. I would highly recommend doing the waterpump so it is fresh as well, count on about 9 hours labor and parts (which will already include the timing belt of course in that labor). I just had a waterpump fail on a customer who only wanted to change the belts about 4 months ago because the motor only had a few thousand miles on the pump since replacement. Sure enough, last weekend at the track the pump let go.
