My 86 944 quits while accelerating
Help! I have had my 86 944 nonturbo for about 4 months now. It is great shape, 90K miles and I really love it, but it just started a problem where it idles anrevs upfine in the driveway, but take it on the road and accelerate normallyinto third or so and the engine quits. After a minute or two, I can restart it get back home slowly at a low RPM. I have replaced the fuel filter, plug wires, and DME relay.Any guideance would be great.

Doc, TPS checks out ok as well as the flow sensor, I read somewhere else the alarm module may cause the engine to quit, any advise? It's such a sudden shutdown of the engine it's seems electrical. All other items in the car stay on, just the engine quits.

I have to drive it, I can rev it in the driveway and it stays running, I take it on the road up the street and it quits. It's weird, all the electrical stays on, but I have to turn the key back to restart it. I have checked vacuum lines, TPS, AFS, all connections, DME relay. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you try jumpering the DME relay connections, then driving it. The relay coil may be letting go. Seems like it could be your fuel pump also. You might want to check the fuel pressure right after it quits.

As an update;the problemwas the fuel pressure regulator. The pressure at the fuel rail waswithin specs, except it would not hold pressure after shuttingthe engineoff. A new regulator cured the quitting problem. Nice to be cruising around again.
