Default New 944 owner here

Greetings all, I recently traded my immaculate 89 Mustang GT for an 88 Porsche 944 N/A. At first I was pretty excited because the car is in pretty damn good shape for an 88 but after looking around on this forum I'm starting to really get worried. Sounds like the 944 is a problematic junker. I guess it is a good thing that it won't be a daily driver. Almost every post starts with "Whats wrong with my 944?" or "My 944 is ****ed". I think I may have made the wrong choice in getting rid of my Mustang which was extremely reliable, but I was always curious about the 944 and have always loved the way they look. Anyway, I'm just a concerned new owner. Looking forward to getting to know you guys, by the way it sounds, I'll be visiting this forum a good deal with questions. Oh, btw, here is a pic of my new 944:

P.S. sorry if the pic looks kinda crappy but it was a cloudy day and the car is kinda dirty....it really is a nice car though.

Looks like a really nice car! I have an 88 n/a as well, and it has 164K on the clock. It's in great shape mechanically and it's a lot of fun to drive. It's a daily driver for my wife. Don't let the posts get you down - after all, most of the time people post to solve a problem, and the 944 is getting older. The 944 has a lot of potential to do what you want with it. We autocross our 944 but we haven't taken it up to Road Atlanta yet. It's got loads of miles left on it. Sure, things break with that many miles on it, but that's going to happen with any car. Anyway, enjoy your purchase - you're better off with the 944 than the Mustang, in my not so humble opinion

Agreed, most people make posts because they have a problem, so it makes it look like the cars are problematic. Go to a foxbody forum and tell me people aren't asking why their car is running rough, etc. Go to any internet forum for that matter, and you will find the same thing. The cars are fun to drive if they are properly maintained. I came from the mustang world as well, and I will never go back. Learn some things about your car, then if you want some better performance hp-wise, then upgrade to a 944 turbo....then the fun really starts

thanks for the replies guys. I'll be hanging out here quite a bit now. By the way, my car has 138,xxx miles on it. It does run good but I wanna get the timing belt changed because I hear thats the most important thing to keep up with.

Yup, bite the bullet do your front seals, waterpump, and timing and balance shaft belts all at the same time.

Wow, I'm sure that'll probably cost more than the whole car is worth, lol.

Yea, it is about a $500 job in parts alone. But once that is taken care of, you really don't have to worry about anything on the front of the engine for awhile (other than re-tensioning the Timing belt after 1500 miles after a fresh belt has been installed)

Yeah, I hope this car has some life left in it. 138k miles ain't too bad for an 88.

I have an 85 NA and it has over 250K on it. I drive it to work every day (50 miles rt) and dont ever worry about getting there or getting back. These cars are great and go forever.
