Occasional ticking from valve train

Occasional ticking from valve train
I'm getting an intermitant ticking from the valve train.Sometimes it tick's sometimes it doesnt. It 's not ticking continuously, its more of a tick-tick....pause...tick-tick....Makes me think there is some play or damage to one or more of the valves or guides or????.Engine performance is unaffected as of now, but motor does have 117k on it.Could this be related to timing belt play?
Any help would be much appreciated....Mc.

RE: Occasional ticking from valve train
As the fuel injectors get older they have a tendency to tick occasionally. Since they are in proximity to the valve cover the ticking noise is sometimes attributed to the valves. If you find a decent deal on a set of new injectors and you are handy you may wish to replace the existing units, especially if they are originals. Don't forget to replace all of the fuel rail o-rings.

RE: Occasional ticking from valve train
Just a suggestion to help avoid an unnecessary valve cover removal. Best suggestion is to use the old mechanic's trick of taking a length of 3/8" fuel hose and hold one end to your ear and the other to the area where you hear the ticking. If you have a mechanic's stethoscope even better. Be sure where the noise is coming from before you begin disassembling anything or you could be wasting your time.
