starting problem

i had asked before about a 83 944 not starting. the reply was tdc sensor or speed sensor since i have replaced dme already. no fire no fuel. is there any way to find out which sensor it is without replacing both????????????

RE: starting problem

Did you replace your DME relay first? www.clarks-garage.com in his shop manual tells how to test the speed and reference sensors.

Oh, first, is your tach bouncing at all during cranking?

RE: starting problem

Did you replace the DME (ECU) or the DME relay? Ok, if the tach isn't bouncing either the DME is bad, DME relay, or the reference sensor is bad (front sensor). I believe the car will start with a bad speed sensor.

RE: starting problem

PorscheDoc Thanks for the info. I was having issues getting spark. I started checking the DME wiring and found a broken pug behind the engine. The Tac still doesn't move during cranking, but will move when fired up.
