If you live in a milder climate, I would recommend the 71C thermostat. The temp gauge stays in the lower 1/4 range. Make sure to get a thermo fan switch to match, as well. As far as coolant goes, any quality brand that is phosphorus/silicate free (someone chime in if I'm off here, trying to remember for sure). However, I strongly recommend staying away from any DEXCOOL mixes, as they always seem to create leaks where there none previously. Hope that helps.

Yup, phosphate free is what you want, safe for aluminum engines. Somewhat hard to find. Dexcool bad. You can use the Pink VW coolant available at the dealer, or use the Pink Pentosin coolant, part number ZVW 237 G12
