I've pulled the transaxle out of my 87 944 because the transmission is stuck in 3rd gear, and it's not a shift linkage problem. I was hoping there might be something I could open up on the shift selector to see what the problem might be, but I don't see anything obvious to mess with to see what might be going on in there. Any suggestions?

Barring that, anyone have a suggestion on sourcing a rebuild or replacement? I live in the Atlanta area, so there's lots of places I can go, but I really don't want to spend a ton of money on this car if I can avoid it... (ha ha, I just realized the silliness of that statement)

 

I would just pick up a used transaxle and slap it in. For the NA, you can pick them up for under $500 all day long.
