Vibrating noise above transmission.

Hi everyone!

I have a later model 85/944. It has a vibrating noise above the transmission when I downshift through the gears coming to a stop. The car runs and shift's fine.I cheecked the exhaust system and the heatshields over them to see if they were lose .But know problem found. It seems to be coming from the shift cable or shiftcable tube.Has enyoneout there ever herd of this tye of problem before ?If so what is it and how do I fix it.Any help you all could give me would be fantastic.

Thank you all

My bet would be the motor mounts. A vibration can and will travel quite well in a 944. Also try to isolate where the vibration is from. Does it happen when the car is in gear? out of gear? clutch in or out?

You have a vibrating noise, not a vibration itself, right? Its probably the heat sheild that mounts above the torque tube in the "hump" that is contacting the shifter rod tube. If you can get the car up on a lift, it should be pretty easy to find and fix.

It might also be the heat shield by the muffler, now that I think about it...
