Default Wheels? Please Help?

there are only really three different lug patterns that are common, 4 lug, then two different sizes of 5 lug, one is for trucks and the other size is for cars. basically any rims you find with a 5 lug pattern and made for sports cars, will fit on your porsche. The lug nuts aren't going to be the problem at all, basically it's sizing your tires correctly, you don't want to put 20inch rims in your car becuase it will take costum work for them to fit, the sizes i would recommend are 17-18 inch rims with lower profile tires on them, i believe the stock size is 16 inch so you will notice a big difference in 18 inchers. i would also check ebay for porsche wheels becuase i have seen them for 100 dollars a piece. Don't hold me on any of this info, i am pretty sure it is spot on but i would talk to the company you are buying from becuase they will know, i don't think that porsche has a completly seprate type of lugnut pattern but if they do for some off reason a lug nut conversion won't be hard and can be done with parts from a junkyard, it cost me 50 dollars to convert a civic from 4 bolt to 5 bolt, but i am sure this is not the case<edited><editID>HINporschetuner</editID><editDate>37916.9321064815</editDate></edited>

Porsche does have 5 spoke wheels. They were mainly for the 911's. I also have an 84 944 and I have the 5 spoke rims, they are called Fuchs. The 84 had the rims as an option in the 83-85.0 cars. The rims from other years-85.5 and up- have a different offset. They will fit, but you may have to roll the fender lips in out of the way. Best to try and stay with the early offset rims. You can get a decent set for $500 and up, but be careful, they do skyrocket in price according to shape of rims. When I bought the car, it had some 16" MSW rms on it, so you can get aftermarket rims. Just keep an eye out for the right offset. I also belong to a different 944 list-rennlist.com. They have all kinds of tech data, just ask and ye shall receive. It is a great list. The Fuchs were stock at 15", the turbos were 16" rims. All 5 bolt, except for the early 924's, which were 4 bolt.

Default RE: Wheels? Please Help?

I need to clear up some serious mis-information in this thread.

1. Porsche 944's (and most every other 5 lug porsche with the exception of the very early 356 and 550 variants) have a 5X130 bolt pattern. This bolt pattern is NOT COMMON/POPULAR with other car manufacturers, and is usually only available in factory porsche wheels or aftermarket ones made SPECIFICALLY for Porsches.

2. 1982 thru 1986 944's have what is called "early offset" wheels. They are generally 23.3mm offset and the wheels tend to have a "deeper" dish look to them (more rim lip available). 1987 and later 944variants have what is called "late offset" wheels (to clear the ABS that became an option and eventually a standard feature). These wheels have a 50-52ish mm offset. Early wheels will not fit late cars. Late wheels will fit early cars with spacers. IMHO, spacers are not a great idea, they will not pass tech at most PCA DE's and race events for a reason.

3. 951's (944turbo cars) appeared in 1986 (1985 and 1986 for europe/ROW) and had early offset 16 inch wheels for that year only. They came with 16" 951 phonedials standard, 16" 951 fuchs were a highly desirable option and are somewhat rare to find today, thus the high price tag that a used set still carries. 87 and later 951's came with late offset 16" phonedials, D-90's, "clubsport" wheels(a deeper/wider version of the d-90's on the Turbo S and 89 951 cars), and the flat "sewer lid" wheels (like those found on some 928 models).

4. Wheel fittiment on 951's is somewhat limited by the larger brake calipers. 911 wheels usually will not fit unless they are 17" or larger. 16" and 15" 911 wheels usually do not fit, they hit the brake calipers on the ourboard corners and the bleeder valves. The exception to this rule are the highly desirable 16x9 fuchs found on the 911turbo ("930"). These do clear the rear brake calipers on the 1986 951 (anyone have a set? I am looking for a pair of these.)

I hope this helps clear things up.

This refers only to the early offset 1986 Turbo (of which 1/2 of all 944 Turbos are). For the 1987+ models the 16" wheels from 911s (964+) will work fine, the issue with caliper clearance is not a problem.

FWIW, you could put 15" PDs on the 944 Turbo, not only did the factory do it with the VERY early 1986s models but I have seen it with my own two eyes a few times. Just doesnt look right, but that is subjective.

Why do you guys have to make it so complicate? Just get whatever wheels you want because they look good, then you just take to a shop and have them drill new holes so that it fits your car.

Have you considered plastic surgery? I have a colleague in Mexico that accepts American pornographic DVDs for his services.
