Do you think it is better to buy a 97 boxster with 23,000 mi or a 01 boxster with 51,000.

Is buying a 97 boxster with 23,000 miles like buying a relatively new car?

Please need opinions.

 

No, it is like buying a 7-8 year old vehicle with 23k miles on it, lol. Being that said, obviously if you do the math, you are looking at about 3k miles a year, so it has probably been pampered, sat in a garage, driven on weekends only when it is not raining, etc, so probably as safe buy as far as that goes. The other car, 4-5 years old, about 15k a year or so, so it could have been a daily driver for someone, it will have more road abuse obviously. If the money is similar, i would be more apt to go for the car with less miles if it truely has been taken car of well, and then get a PPI (about 300 bucks) done on it at a porsche shop or dealer to check it out...best money you will ever spend. For a 2001 porsche, 51k miles is getting up there...meaning it is being driven, most cars i see in the shop of similar year, are usually 20-40k miles, though some are around 50 or higher, and it usually shows. From what i have seen, the guys that barely drive their cars, take incredible car of them. The guys that use it as a daily driver (and there are exceptions), tend to not worry about keeping it as clean, etc.

I have a 01 Boxster with no diagram (key) to the fuse box.
Does anyone have one they can scan and attach to an email?

I'm having some electrical problems.

There are some significant differences between '98 and '01. They up'd they quality of the interiour and fixed a lot of annoying little hick ups since. I psersonally would NOT buy a '98 at all and prefer the '01. But of course that depends of what "type" of mileage you are talking about. An owner who babies is car and the mileage is highway or stop and go? Or an owner negleting his car. Stick or Tiptronic? How is the clutch if applicable. If the '01 checks out well take it!

I would stay away from the '98 if you have a choice.

 

RECENTLY MADE THE SAME DECISION MYSELF; AND OPTED FOR A 97 BOXSTER WITH 12,400 MILES VS. NEWER MODEL WITH ADD'L MILES. 6 MOS/8000 MILES LATER, HAVE NO REGRETS. NEED TO MAKE SURE THE OLDER MODEL CAR IS THE REAL DEAL IN TERMS OF CARE/MAINTENANCE -- SO GET IT PROFESSIONALLY INSPECTED JUST TO MAKE SURE. I'M SURE THE NEWER MODELS HAVE BEEN THROUGH REFINEMENTS -- BUT MY COMPLAINTS WITH THE 97 ARE FEW/MINOR.
