Boxster 2006 Convertible Top Wear Issue
Greetings to All. I've just joined the Porsche family! A little history... please no nasty remarks, but I have moved on from the Miata. I bought my 2010 Miata when it was a year old. I owned it for 18 months and put a couple of thousand miles on it. I sold it for $400 less than I paid for it - how can you not like a sports car like that?? Mazda was fun, but I was anxious for something more exciting. I bought my Guards Red 2006 Boxster (19" wheels) with 5,700 miles. It looks brand new and included the car cover. It is obviously a blast to drive! Everyone turns to watch my Porsche go by - hardly anybody gave the Miata a second look. Anyways, on with the question: My convertible top shows two wear lines (one on each side of the car). The fabric is being frayed where it folds during the opening / closing process. I spoke with the Porsche Service department and they said I shouldn't be concerned. They claimed this is normal and that the fabric won't wear all the way through. I did, however, see elsewhere on the internet where Porsche apparently replaced a convertible top under warranty for this same defect. I plan to treat the top with 303 Fabric Protector. Any recommendations would be welcome. Thanks!
