Hey, I'm assuming my timing is too far advanced and is causing my car to bog down and backfire, more prominent when the engine is cold. Just wondering the fastest/best way to check the timing, and reset it to default.

 

Well if it is out of time, then you have some serious issues, as it can't really skip time due to the chain system unless you have a major failure in the motor somewhere. It would also cause a check engine light. There is really no way to slip timing without have something like an IMS failure. I would start with things like bad spark plugs, bad injector, etc.

 

Thanks, so after some further diagnoses, we saw that there were some vacuum lines not hooked up. There is a hose that comes off the fuel rail on the left side, and goes to what looks like a check valve, now is one side (right) suppose to be left open? Check a diagram and its showing nothing attached to it. Also there is a canister close to the PS fill tank, that has a hose coming off of it, where does that hose connect to? Not sure if it's just a vent or not, a shop did some work, and a sloppy job by the looks of it, now I must rectify his flaws. Any help well appreciated guys.
