Default Headlight Issue

Okay, I feel really dumb, but here it goes:

2002 Boxster
Why don't my headlights work?Turn on switch, get parking lights, but no headlights, and no brights other than when you pull back on the left turn signal arm. Checked fuses, but everything looks good. Is there a relay on this car for the headlights I'm not finding? The car belongs to my g/f and I'm thinking of just letting her take it to the dealer.

SS MPSTR:

Don't feel dumb. The other morning I started up in the dark to leave for work and I pulled out of the garage. I went to turn the switch on and my headlights did not come on, just parking, similar to your problem. Now, in my case the engine was running. I stood there in the dark trying to figure this out, until I remembered my mechanic mentioned the ignition switch was worn out the last time the car was in the shop. So with the car still running, I moved the the ignition switch back to the right ever so slightly and the headlights came on. Mine is a 1998, but I am sure shares the same ignition switch arrangement similar to all Porsches. Hope this helps. SFStevo

Yup, I would second the ignition switch.

Thanks for the help. The diagnosis was spot on!

I went to move the car into the garage, and as I went to shut the car off, the lights came on - imagine my surprise. Not only did it affect the headlights, but also the interior climate fan, AC compressor. among other things. Glad I found out what it was - now on to the parts house to replace that thing.
