Default High Milage Boxster - Is it worth it?

i'm looking to buy used 986 boxster and given i live in iowa, there aren't many around. i looked at the only one for sale in my area today and i really liked it. unforuately it has 91,000 miles. the salesmen told me that the high milage shouldnt be a problem and that it should be more reliable as a daily driver than my current 02 audi a6 with 64,000 miles. i was skeptical. this boxster, with 91,000 miles is listed at $12,995 and there isnt much chance of finding another boxster in my area for around 15k anytime soon.

what id like to know is would it be worth it to buy a boxster with 40,000 or 50,000 miles for $15 or $16,000 from out of town and have it shipped in for an extra $1k? or would it be a better idea to just go with this high milage boxster in town? ill only be driving the car for a few more years since im in high school and ill sell it after college so i probably won't drive whichever i get for more than 10,000 miles.

Please give me your opinion! thanks!

Seems high. Shop around, autotrader.com or cars.com. You may find a better deal out of state. If you find a good deal, you can fly there and drive home.

I think more important then the mileage is how the car was cared for. I've seen low mileage cars that are problems and high mileage cars that are trouble free... See if the dealers hasservice records for the car asthey may give you some indication as to itscondition.Of coursea good PPI is ALWAYS required before purchase.

Good points Bob. The key is not to limit yourself to your State. When I was shopping for my car, I couldn't find many in Colorado and ended up flying to California and driving the car back home. Made for a fun road trip and got a chance to really get to know the car.

Why not fly there and drive it home. I live in CT, bought my 04 911 Turbo from San Diego and drove home. It was a blast!

Its the condition of the vehicle and it's history that is important.

The bonus is, usually a high mileage car is heavily discounted.
You can get a good buy this way.

I recently (2 yrs ago) sold an '88 Corvette that I had for many years. It had 226,000 miles and you would never know it.
The condition was as if it had 40k miles and the original engine and transmission just purred.
I had all my maintenance rcords and it sold $500 less than a 40k car with no history.
