New member here. Own 97 Boxster.

Totally dead battery. Can't get the hood open to jump it. Dealer said get power into cig. lighter. Did that and got power but still won't start or open the hood. A friend said he had to tow his 1 1/2 hours away to dealer and pay $800 for same thing.

Please help.

Try applying power again. That is a manual release latch, so I am guessing the security system has the latch locked. With power applied, cycle the lock on your keyless entry then try the latch.

There is an emergency release cable near the passenger headlight. You have to remove the inner fender liner to get to it.

You can also remove the driver's fender liner, find the actual trunk release cable, and pull on it, that will usually work as well.
