Default Replacement Brake Light Switch Not Working

A few months ago my ABS light came up on my '02 986 Boxster after spinning out and doing a 360 due to having bald tires. I'm not sure if that's related but I included it in just in case. After taking the vehicle to the mechanic, he diagnosed the ABS being on due to a brake light switch fault. My brake lights are also constantly on whenever the car is on no matter what. I recently ordered a new brake light switch and installed it; the ABS light is not turning off nor are the brake lights behaving properly. I'm unable to turn the brake light switch 90 degrees counter-clockwise in order to get it to lock-in, even when applying a lot of force. Shouldn't it work either way while it's pushed down by my finger? Nonetheless, I'm not sure what to do. Could anyone advise? I've seen multiple forum posts about this same problem but none that address a replacement switch not working. My PSM light is not on; my red warning light indicating a brake fluid top-up is on.
