Default Spark Plugs

I have 32k on my 2001 Boxster S; should I change out the Spark plugs, and if so, which should I purchase? I noticed a "Beru" with 4 electrodes; looks pretty cool. Also, does anything else need replacement such as the spark plug boots, etc.? And how hard is this to do?

Just get standard bosch plugs FGR 6 KQE or the beru equivalent. They are a 4 electrode plug. Nothing else to get. There are no spark plug wires, they run off coil packs. Just be careful with the electrical connection when you remove the coil pack. If you break it, you will throw misfires.

You will need a 5mm allen wrench (a socket type that goes on a 1/4" ratchet works best), along with a spark plug socket tool (5/8's if I recall correctly), and a few extensions. Other than that there is nothing to it.

Thanks very much Doc. Curious what the 5mm allen wrench would be used for??

Each coil pack is held to the valve cover with 2 5mm (head size) allen bolts.

Thanks again. Doc, do you have a link showing/ describing the spark plug replacement method? I have been told the car needs to be up on a lift?

Yea the car needs to be at least raised up on jackstands. You don't need a full lift though.

A writeup I did awhile back.

I suppose I need to remove the rear wheels? If so, is there a clear passage/ access to the spark plugs after wheel removal, or do I need to remove any shields?

I do it from underneath without removing the wheels. The writeup will walk you through it almost exactly.
