A brief cloud of smoke on start up is normal for a horizontal engine, as oil leaks past the vales and into the combustion chamber when it sits. On start up, that oil instantly burns off, and creates a small puff of smoke. If it smokes for more than 15 seconds or so, then likely your oil air seperator is bad.
Whining could be the belt.
Whining could be the belt.
