OK I'm new here, My 04 Range Rover, has been a good SUV for 76K miles, This past friday i went and stopped to check out a 08 Cayenne GTS. I have to say i was majorly impressed.

Questions I have for current Cayenne owners.

1.) Is tire ware still an issue with the Cayennes? I'm hearing no more than 10K on tyres? is that right?
2.) How high maintanace are the Cayennes? untill recently my rover hasn't been to the dealer for other than oil changes.
3.) How good are the Cayennes in winter weather?
4.) Do Cayennes hold up well over time? ie: squeaks, rattles, etc
5.) Gas millage? I'm getting 17-20 mpg depending on brand of super unleaded fuel
6.) Am i missing something? or Porcshe hasn't put bluetooth in the Cayenne yet? whats up with that?
7.) Brakepad wear? what is everyone generally seeing for millage on brake pads?
8.) When I purchased my Rover, I was told " drive it like you stole it , or you'll have problems with her", and it's true that BMW 4.4L engine loves to sit at 3K RPMS or 92 MPH. Is this true with the Cayenne as well?


Sorry for all the questions, but My rover is warrente'd till 100K and I want to get something before it runs out.

Many posts on the specs of the Cayenne.
The rapid tire wear you are referring to has to do with the high performance tires that come stock on the Cayenne.Porsche usedPirellis in the past, but I think it is now Michelins. This has nothing to do with the Cayenne per se just a reality of high performance tires. They often require replacing at about 10K. Same is true of Ferraris, Lambos, other Porsche models, etc...softer rubber=greater grip, especially when dry=more tire wear. Most SUV owners who do not own sports cars seem to be unaware of this phenomenon and tend to blame the Cayenne or Porsche for their tire wear.
Regarding winter, the tires generally spec'd with the Cayenne are summer HP tires. If you put an all-season or better a winter tire (esp. if you live where there is a lot of snow) you should have no problems. Regarding reliability, there are many threads on this website related to this, so my advice is to spend some time reading...good idea before plunking down your money on a car anyway. Mine has been very reliable.
Rattles and squeaks have not been a problem for me. Car is very solid. You will probably have more brake pad wear due to the weight of the Cayenne. That being said, the brakes are exceptional. And they look very cool...nothing worse than seeing a big SUV with big chrome wheels and little bitty brake rotors...not an issue in the Cayenne.
The Cayenne was made to run. It can easily cruise (much more stable than any Range Rover) at 80-100 mph on the high way (but I would know nothing about that). The pneumatic air suspension system that allow you to raise and lower the ride height is standard on both the Turbo and GTS USA spec versions and an option on the other models, S and basic. Don't be like most SUV owners and ride it at the highest setting...the car will corner unbelievably well if you set it in the second to lowest setting for driving...lower center of gravity. You will also be surprised at how well it can do offroad with the right tires. I get 12-13 mpg in the city and 18-19 mpg on the highway. You will not do much better with the nonturbo versions due to the weight of this vehicle.

Go for the Cayenne!

 

If a month late in responding isn't toolong, Iwould suggest that you purchase another Cayenne. It will last longer, and you will enjoy it more over the years.

I have a Cayenne Turbo in the US, and a LR Defender-Turbo Diesel(in Brasil ).

Both are new and the Cayenne is now 106K miles, and wellout of warranty. I have no problem with that fact, as the Cayenne continues to run very well, but I do have a problem withthe LR out, or past warranty. A long list of little things, continuallygrowing into big issues.

Tires as mentioned wear out pretty fast as both are heavy vehicles. Non-racing or non-speed rated tires are the way to go.

Brakes are worn out more on the Defender, than the Cayenne. Tiptronic might be one reason, but I only use it going downhill in the mountains. Porsche just makes a better system.

In short the new Defender was not quite up to the marque I expected it to be. The Cayenne on the other hand has really surprised me, and continues to perform as expected.

 

Disloyal to Porsche I know but do check out the Mercedes ML420 CDI. The 4 Matic makes it a great car for high speed handling. Mine is chipped fo 0-60 in 6 secs is a bonus.
