Default ??Questions?? about the Cayenne.

Wassup guys! New to the forum and I just had a few questions about the Cayenne. I have been reading some reviews lately on the Porsche Cayenne and all I hear about is how bad the car's electronics are. Maybe because they were '03 and you know what they say about first year cars, but is this the same with the '05 Cayennes as well? Are all Porsches like this?

Thanks

Peter-

I have an 05 S and I've had ZERO electronics problems. I've also heard that from others, that the electr. probs were worked on after 03.

Default RE: ??Questions?? about the Cayenne.

I have a 2004 Cayenne turbo. I live in Spain. read my story:

PROBLEMS IN CAYENNE TURBO
Nº PLATE 5275CRW
CHASIS:WP1ZZZ9PZ4LA83773

13th february 2004 (aprox. 800 km) Porsche zentrum Stutgart (5 hours)

-The hand brake lever broke, without even unblocking the brake, in a parking at Porsche Stutgart factory. (THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED WITH GLUE).

November 2004 (30.000km) 1st inspection Alicante (5 days)

Apart of the 1st inspection and new tyres, I listed the following problems to be solved:

-Sometimes, when changing from 2nd to 3rd or from 3rd to 4th, the gearbox slips and after engages with a hard bump. (ACCORDING TO THE PORSCHE CENTRE, THE GEARBOX HAD A LACK OF 200ML FROM FACTORY).
-Power under acceleration is is uneven, i.e. when you accelerate more than ½ of pedal travel it is easy to feel that, if you slightly release the pedal, the power increases provoking a delicate situation under certain circumstances. I also observe that top speed is reached at ¾ of pedal travel and not at full throttle. (NOT SOLVED).
-Sometimes, after starting the engine, no matter if engine temperature is cold or hot, it feels very unstable transmiting a lot of vibrations. (NOT SOLVED)
-There are aerodynamic noises at both front doors. (PARTIALLY SOLVED WITH AN OFFICIAL CAMPAIGN)
-The lateral front left light sometimes fails to work. (JUST A BAD CONTACT)
-When I unlock the car, the boot top door sometimes opens. (THEY CHANGE A MICROINTERRUPTOR)
-I usually use Entry and drive, but I realise that the remote control doesn’t work until I mechanically open the door with the key once or twice. (NOT SOLVED)
-If I select whatever position for suspension, air conditioning, etc, once I close the car, the positioning I selected is sometimes lost. (NOT SOLVED)
-I can´t manage to configure the garage buttons of the car to work at home with rolling codes (ACCORDING TO PORSCHE CENTRE IT WILL NEVER WORK)
-There are aerodynamic noises at the sunroof. (NOT SOLVED)
-Although I use original soundtrack CDs, sometimes the charger has to be recherged for it to read all of the Cds. (NOT SOLVED)

17th february 2005 (36.819km) Alicante (9 days)

Porsche assistance has to tow my car for several reasons:

-Airbag indicator lights up. (ACCORDING TO PORSCHE CENTRE IT IS DUE TO A LOOSE CONNECTION)
-Computer alarm with 4x4 failure on screen
-PSM and ABS indicators light up
-Telphone blocks when use is combined between steering wheel buttons and main buttons on PCM
-Car battery drains twice since november without any apparent reason
-I still have problems with all memories of the car as in november
-Autolock and autounlock often don’t work

The front brake pads are also renewed.

Except for the airbag problem, all the rest ARE NOT SOLVED

2nd june 2005 (45.145km) Marbella Porsche centre Autos Zeus (two days)

-Electronic trouble codes:
1592; quality air sensor (THEY SAY IT WAS A BAD CONTACT)
907; electric system distribution intervention with DME control module
16405 (0021); Admision cam shaft regulation surpassed, bank 2-implausible
signal (AT PORSCHE CENTRE THEY TELL ME THIS TROUBLE CODE IS
NORMAL AND THEY CAN NOT FIX IT)
02039 potentiometer of the transfer case, implausible signal (THEY CHANGE
SERVOMOTOR OF THE TRANSFER CASE)
2197 Interior lower ilumination potentiometer (NOT SOLVED)

-computer displays 4x4 failure (FIXED WITH THE SERVOMOTOR)
-PSM and ABS indicator lights up (FIXED WITH THE SERVOMOTOR)
-Gearbox is getting very rough when changing (THEY RECODE THE CONTROL MODULE)
-engine power is uneven as in november 2004 (THEY RECODE THE DME)
-autolock and autounlock do not work properly (NOT SOLVED)

23rd june 2005 (47.347km) Marbella Porsche centre (two days)

Porsche assistance tows my car

-Airbag indicator lights up (ACCORDING TO PORSCHE CENTRE IT IS DUE TO A LOOSE CONNECTOR AGAIN)
-failure in memories of the car, i.e. climate control, suspension, etc (NOT SOLVED)
-autolock and autounlock do not work properly (NOT SOLVED)
-Entry and drive doesn’t work properly. I can’t lock or unlock the car using the buttons on door handles (NOT SOLVED)
-Alarm system doesn’t work well

8th july 2005 (48.320km) Marbella Porsche centre (two days)

-Entry and drive still doesn’t work (NOT SOLVED)
-Autolock and autounlock still don’t work properly (NOT SOLVED)
-Alarm still doesn’t work properly (NOT SOLVED)
-Sometimes gearbox fails to change well from 3rd to 4th gear again (NOT SOLVED)
-The outer mirrors cannot be memorized (NOT SOLVED)

27th july 2005 Marbella Porsche centre (two days)

The car is in for the same problems (NOT SOLVED AGAIN)

18th august 2005 Marbella Porsche centre (more than a month)

Porsche Assistance tows my car

This time, the life of my two year old son has been in danger due to an electronic problem in the car. The car was parked in the street under the sunshine and decided to autolock when my son was in the car and also the key, but my wife was outside (Málaga, southern Spain 16:00, 35ºC in the shade). You can imagine my wife cying and screaming for help and the baby sweating inside the locked car. A Policeman and other neighbours needed about 20 minutes until they managed to brake the glass with a hammer. You may imagine the shock and heat the baby had to suffer under these conditions.

-They order the driver’s door glass
-They also proceed to fix all the other problems the car had
-They also have to paint drivers door due to scraches with broken glass

22nd september 2005 Marbella Porsche centre (they call me to pick my car up)

I find the following:

-They have sprayed bits of paint all over the roof, some glasses, rear laft door, rear left fender and front bonnet (THEY TRY TO SOLVE THIS WITH POLISH)
-The door frame is very badly adjusted. It is easy to se a gap of about 4mm between frame and chasis
-The driver’s door handle doesn’t work
-There are still a lot of broken glasses inside the car and dirt

After waiting two hours, the manager, José Luis G.Ballenilla, promises to solve the problem and take my car home for me by 19:00. He lets me a BMW 318ci to go back home. The mechanic brings the car at 20:15h. We both see that the car still has plenty of glasses inside and dirt, the door frame is better, but still not good (it even has aerodynamic noises at high speeds); the door handle does work. Mr. Ballenilla is informed with whom I agree to have an appointment the following week.
After the huge amount of problems and due to the low proffessionlity I decided to buy a diagnosis computer, so I could read trouble codes myself and make sure everything was good in the multiple control modules. After Autos Zeus Porsche centre brought my car home that weekend, this is what I found:

TROUBLE CODES ON CAYENNE TURBO (24th september 2005)

ENGINE
Controler 8TE4ASN30000

Code0021 Bank 2 admision camshaft regulation surpassed
-Implausible signal (intermitent)

VEHICLE ALIMENTATION SYSTEM (BNSG)
GR.97
Controler 7L5937049C

code 1498 rigt situation light bulb
shotcut or open- intermitent
code 2197 interior lower ilumination potentiometer
implausible signal-intermitent

CONFORT SYSTEM AT REAR AND DOORS
GR.57
Controler 7L5951171

code 0131 perimetral ilumination of driver’s door
electric failure in circuit
code 1737 Right outer mirror vertical regulation potentiometer
Implausible signal-intermitent

Not only I found these codes, but I this also happened:
-Power steering oil level was very low (I added 1/3 of a liter). I found out because the power steering pump was very noisy due to be working with very little oil. Fortunetely I had a bottle of the special oil it uses. After two days (Sunday) I checked the level and observed that it had leaked. It had dirtied the car with oil underneath.
-They forgot to put the engine bay cover underneath which protects the whole engine bay.
-The plastic cover on the driver’s door where the outer mirror adjusting button is on is loose. It probably has broken clips due to improper labour when fixing the window.
-One of the keys we have for the car no longer works. It needs recoding.
-The paint job is still not well finished.
-I find front right tyre with a very low pressure.

On the other hand, what they have managed to solve or, at least, improve is:

-Entry and drive seems to work correctly
-All memories in car seem to work properly, although I need to see what happens when both keys work again and we have different memories on each one
-The gearbox is working better than ever. I’ll need some time to make sure that the intermitent problem between 3rd and 4th gear has dissapeared. What is for sure is that all the problems that the gearbox has had for one and a half years has, at least, caused a premature wearout on, not only the gearbox, but all the transmission.

27th september 2005 Marbella Porsche center(I still don’t have my car back)

The car is back in the garage:
-Leak in power steering system (THEY HAVE TO CHANGE THE POWER STEERING PUMP)
-They will put the engine bay cover underneath back on.
-They will recode the 2nd key which didn’t work.

I have told them not to do anything else (paintjob, glasses inside the car...)because I do not trust their labour and because I do not want this car any longer.

4th October 2005 Marbella Porsche center (they give me my car back)

They had ignored me and tried to fix the whole thing, so I asked the boss to go through it with me, and this is what we found:

-There’s still broken glasses inside the car
-The paint job is still not well finished
-We drove it and heard a lot of noise coming from the sunroof

They told me they had deleted all trouble codes

On the 5th October 2005, I had the following trouble codes again:

DME
Code0021 Bank 2 admision camshaft regulation surpassed
-Implausible signal (intermitent)

VEHICLE ALIMENTATION SYSTEM (BSNG)

P1494 left situation light bulb
P1520 rain and light sensor
P2197 interior lower illumination potentiometer

CONFORT SYSTEM REAR DOORS

P1737 Vertical adjustment potentiometer on right outer mirror

So they deleted them again.

9th October 2005

After these days using the car, we almost had an accident due to the fact that the steering was suddenly very stiff when we tried to turn left. This has happened 3 times, but you never know when.
I connected diagnosis again, and :

DME

P0021

VEHICLE ALIMENTATION SYSTEM

P1520
P2197

Wow. I don't know about the law where you live, but here in tNorth Carolina, the state has a "lemon law" which requires a dealer take back and fully refund money for any vehicle that is constantly breaking like that.

No vehicle is that good. I've had my 911 Carrera 2 for 3000 miles now and have no problems. Hope it keeps up.

2005 Porshe Turbo, 31K miles, only warrantyrelated issue was a leaking sunroof. No significant electric problems.

Rico

Ft. Benning, Ga

2004 Porsche Cayenne

No Real issues to strangle somes little neck over but, front D/S windshield wiper blade tore at 19,899 miles just when i was to bring her in for the 20K serv. and the dealer in ft.lewis, Wa said it was not covered under warranty and tried charging my wife $120 not to mention no loaner. I ordered one from a stealer in PA online and took it up north to a Porsche dealer near seattle and they took care of me.

at 30K in ATLANTA, GA the bulbs in the rear hatch popped and the Rear blade needed replacing cause it was no longer touching the rear glass during operation and that too was not covered under warranty.. I will try Upgrading things as I can, as they wear and see if the aftermarket option last longer.

I have 22" wheels and so she handles a bit better now ;-)

other than that she is SOLID cause I do Run my lil 3.2L as a porsche was meant.
