Default Completing the bonus features on two disc

The first disc of this release indeed includes the original verson of "Day of the Daleks," complete with a commentary track from Anna Barry, Jimmy Winston, producer Barry Letts, script editor Terrance Dicks and vision mixer Mike Catherwood. In addition, there are bonus features: a 30 minute documentary, "Blasting the Past," which addresses having the Daleks return in this episode after their last appearance in "Return of the Daleks," which aired in 1967. There's even more making-of to be had in the twenty-minute "A View from the Gallery" with Letts and Catherwood talking about the effects used, and some outside-the-box bits on the Daleks with a three-minute human interest story from Nationwide and a five-minute segment from children's show, Blue Peter. A photo gallery, an info-text commentary track option, and a DVD-ROM accessible PDF of the Radio Times listing for the episode cap things off.

The second disc contains the revised vision for "Day of the Daleks," and as you may guess, there are bonus features that focus on the remaking process, with a 14 minute making-of featurette and a six minute "Now and Then" comparison.

More interesting, however, are the following featurettes. "The UNIT Family - part 2" continues its look at the actors who portrayed the recurring characters from the paramilitary organization, and includes interviews with Nicholas Courtney, Terrance Dicks, Richard Franklin, Barry Letts, John Levene, Katy Manning, Fernanda Marlowe, and Derek Ware, all accompanied by clips of themselves as they were during the series.

"The UNIT Dating Conundrum" is a fun nine minutes that attempts to answer the unanswerable: When did these UNIT stories really occur in the disparate continuity of Doctor Who? Was Sara Jane really from 1980? Did they occur in parallel universes? Were there duplicate Brigadiers? This is humorously done, with Tony Hadoke narrating. But if you're seriously interested in knowing the answer, we turned once again to Whostorian Howe.

"Telos has a new guide to WHO Continuity out called TIMELINK which covers all that." Well, that's that, then!

Completing the bonus features on the second disc -- and thus the release -- is "The Cheating Memory." We've all experienced it in the DVD revolution: television and movie experiences from our childhood losing their unique gilding when we revisit them in adulthood. Executive Producer Steve Broster narrates, and ponders on the nature of memory, recalling seeing "Day of the Daleks" at age 6, then again at 19. This feature includes technical commentary with Dr. Sarita Robinson, who talks about memory, infantile amnesia, and why things were just overall better "back then."
