RE: water pump
Porsche did an upgrade on the waterpumps, starting in '87. Its a better design, but not by much, imo, and the old style should still fit. Where did you find a new water pump for $50?? Normally, they are around $220 new, and around $50 for a rebuilt one.

RE: water pump
Be weary of a cheap item. Was is aftermarket? If so did you research the company? And was there a warranty?
The last thing anybody wants is to be stranded along side the road due to a cheaply made water pump.

RE: water pump
The big concern is that if the impeller shaft seizes, it can cause the timing belt to get thrown off, causing bent valves and a not so fun time dealing with the resulting damage. Since some of the rebuilt units floating around have been recycled a few times, they are getting near to a critical metal fatigue state, which makes the likelyhood of this happening go up some. Having said this, because I do my own work and can inspect the water pump before it goes on, I do use rebuilt water pumps on my 944's. My 951 and 968 both get new water pumps.
YMMV.
Gapowr, I thought you were buying a 951 engine? lol
