Default Everlasting Cars

I'm suddenly fascinated by a concept, maybe dicotomy is the better word, that was triggered by a comment made in another thread. Someone referred to a particular car as "disposable." In yet another thread, someone else commented that quality cars like Porsches "can last forever, even if you drive them hard, if you take good care of them."
It occurred to me that while I don't really regard cars as disposable, I have never really thought of any of my cars as of such quality that I would make any extraordinary efforts to preserve them.
As to Ia purely "disposable" device: A DVD player is a good example in my mind. Mine cost $59 - when it fails the first time I toss it and buy another: it would cost more to have it repaired. I own many other similar devices, as Iam sure everyone does.
While I don't regard cars in quite that light, I realized just now that I have always bought and owned cars with an implicit understanding that they are just machine to be worn out, and that I will eventually get rid of them. I guess, in a way, that means I think they are disposable. And I can think of very few exceptions (and none that I have owned) except for a very few classics I can think of , I lump all cars in this same category regardless of perceived quality of cost: I really see no fundamental difference between, say, a Kia, and a Porsche, or my current Aston Martin for that matter: each will eventually wear out to the point I get rid of it with no real attempt to preserve its lifetime or restore it.
Just wondered what others thought.
