Has anyone done HID conversion on 911
I just bougth a 1999 911 cab and I want to do a HID head light conversion. There are many kits on Ebay that suggest it can be done. Has anyone done this and if so can you tell me if these common HID kits will work?
Thanks alot |
RE: Has anyone done HID conversion on 911
These add on kits are a nicer, whiter light, but not a true HID. They are easy to install, I have done quite a few on boxsters. If you want the true HID with the proper lenses, then you need to buy them from Porsche, and you don't want to know what those cost.
For a 100-200 though, it isn't a bad upgrade. Gets rid of that yellow tinted light spray. |

Hi Doc,
Thanks for the info. I need all the help I can get with night driving. So do I just have to pull out the bulb from the back of the lense and replace with the new H7 bulb and install the plug & play ballast? Or does the lense need to come out too? Thanks for your help, Marty |
RE: Has anyone done HID conversion on 911
Yes that is about all there is to it. No changes to the lenses, which is why it really isn't a true HID.

Doc,
I was reading an old thread of yours concerning a fellow who was considering a Super Charger upgrade. I am really considering this upgrade if it is feasible for me and there is a good application upgrade for my 1999 911 C2 cab. Can you offer me any advice? So far I have checked the GIAC web site. |
RE: Has anyone done HID conversion on 911
I have installed many dozen EvoMS supercharger kits. They have been bulletproof kits for us, we use the same base for the 997 kits as well. It utilizes a Vortec blower, and a self contained liquid to air intercooler setup. You can read about their kit on their website, and if you have any questions, just shoot me a message.

Hi I've put a "Virtual Daylight" Kit at UK GBP £170 say US$ 300 onto my 2003 996. No major problems. Only did the dipped beam leaving the main beam standard. Quite straight foward about an hour a side.

RE: Has anyone done HID conversion on 911
I have a 2002 boxster I did a HID conversion in I bought some 8000k Low beams H7's and put them in it only took and hour to do both sides and had similar results to Doc's It looks great and i left the high beams alone they are still white. Which when I have my highbeams on the white blends with the blue nicely and it makes a world of difference over the stock ones. Personally I like the blue and white mixture it isn't as hard on the eyes if you do a lot of night driving with no other lights around (like me in the middle of no where Iowa) HID is one of the best upgrades for night driving in my opinion.
Long live Porsche! Brent |
RE: Has anyone done HID conversion on 911
hey Brent thanks for the input...I am waiting for the HID kits. They sure are great for night driving. I can go twice as far at night with HIDs and a can or two of Red bull.
