Default losing battery power on 83 944

I have an '83 944 and recently I thought the Alternator was on its way out. my battery would die every 6-7 time i drove then it eventually would die every time. I took the alternator out and it was just fine, iv'e also got a new battery. I talked to a guy who also has a 944 non-turbo, he has the same problen so I think that it might be fairly common. I'm assuming that a wire has come loose or I blew a fuse. I'm hoping for some help to narrow it down. thanks

Definitely search for short circuits. your problem may be a shorted wire somewhere. My car suddenly lost the right side door woofer. Then I noticed that the speaker worked only when the door was open. I drove the car for less than 1 hour with the stereo on; stopped for gas, and had a dead battery when I turned the key. Then push started, and left the stereo off; no problem. Had the speaker problem fixed at the installer. It was a cut wire. (obviously) The problem has not re-appeared. I also tested the regulater and alternator. (not bench) just with a meter.
Your problem sounds similar, but less obvious.
