Switching seats
I'm in the process of finding a 996 to buy in the next few months. 1999- 2002.
I see a lot of them with noticeable wear on the upper and lower outer bolsters on the drivers seat: those are the areas that get the most abuse from getting in and out.
The inside of the seat, next to the console, is usually in great shape. And the passenger seat is usually nearly perfect.
Can the 2 seats be switched left/right? Are the track assemblies/mounting holes any different? There are no airbags in the seats in those years, so that is not an issue.
And I can live with the seat controls being next to the console.
Doing the switch would hide the wear on the drivers seat by putting it next to the console, and doing so would equalize the wear on the seats. I would wind up with a nearly unused seat on the drivers side. The other seat would really get hardly any further wear since I rarely have a passenger in the car.
And since the car will not be used daily or heavily, the 'new' drivers seat will show very little wear over time.
And I could always switch them back if need be.
Seems like a crazy idea I'm sure....but is it do-able?
