Default Electrical problems

I'm the proud owner of a Porche 944, 1983 model. She has only 105,000 kilometeres on the clock and still smells like new inside. The dealers where I baught the car made a mistake by putting in a too large battery which made a short against the bonnet and burn a hole in it, but after that, I drove for another 4000 km on and off. About a month ago, one morning,I parked the car in front of my house and in the evening when I want to put it in the garage, it would'nt start. The engine is turning, the fuelpump works. Everything

I towed her to a local auto electrician and after dis connecting the original immobilizer, testing of the coil and the picups on the flywheel, his diagnose is that the electronic control system, (computer box),failed.

My question is:

1. Can it be that I drove the vechile withno incidents on the road but it broke while the car was parked?

2. A new electronic controller here in South Africa cost R18,000 + Tax = US $2830.34. Anywhere I can find it cheaper?

Please help?

I'd get a second opinion before jumping off the deep end for a new ecu. If you do need one, check Porsche salvageplaces on the web. You could probably keep half your money.

Thank you, wdonovan.

Well, it's 2 weeks later and my car is still standing, :-((.

According to the mechanic there are 2 AC's, (Whatever that migh be), blown om the ecu.

We will see!
