Default a few minor issues

Alright, I own a 87 944 n/a. Two minor issues(I hope). As soon as I start the car, the thermo guage goes straight to 100% hot, all the way to the top. I know the car deosn't have an overheating problem, so any ideas on what may be causing this? Number two, about once a day, the engine knocks, and the car usually stalls. It always starts up again immediately, but it is annoying. The rest of the time the car runs 110%! I have no other complaints. If anyone, like doc, could help me with these, I would be extremely grateful! By the way, is doc from portland. I met a porsche enthusiast a couple months ago who called himself doc, could it be?

Default RE: a few minor issues

The temp sensor is easy, there are 2 temp sensors in the block for the car. One is the temp sensor for the DME, and the other is the temp sensor for the gauge.

In this picture it shows both. The DME temp sensor is the bluish square sensor at the front of the the engine. The gauge temp sensor is the plug immediately to the right of it (two prong plug). Replace the gauge sensor and that should take care of the problem.

The other could be a bit more difficult to narrow down. It could be anything from the TPS to the DME relay.

Thanks for the quik reply!!! I'll get on the temp sensor guage immediately, I'll guess I'll just deal with the other until it fixes itself lol.
