Default transmission question

OK, my 87 944 na has 123 on it. About a week ago, as I would accelerate it would clack and more quickly as I would accelerate. It said in the manual I should change tranny fluid every 60 thousand miles, so assuming it had been done once, at 60, it would be about 3 thousand overdue. I changed the fluid, and the noise didn't stop. Clack clack clack as I would accelerate. Now, three days later, the noise seems to have stopped. My question, is this just luck. Did my changing the fluid have anything to do with the stopping, and why would it take three days, and should I be expecting the tranny to go. BTW- It drives perfectly, had not a single problem with tranny.

Sounds like a CV axle is loose. If it was making noise with the old fluid, putting in new fluid isn't going to stop any clicking, as it can't fix any damage done.

Default RE: transmission question

porsche doc sounds right about the constant velocity joints. I just had the same issue with my 944 a few months back. Mine did'nt need replacing, but the seals where bad. So it got new seals and a boot full of grease which cured the problem. I'm not sureif you have the time to replace these but if you think theissue is not having enough grease, try and getting a needle tip for a grease gun andgo through the boot with the needle and grease thejoints. Iused a tube for each side, and see if that works.
