Just got a 2K boxter S, 6 spd, 54K on it. When I step on it I hear a sound like the old rochester quad secondaries opening up and gulping for all it's worth (I guess the youngsters wouldn't know about Rochesters!). Is this normal? The last TWO times I heard this kind of sound was when the cat(s) went bad on my camaro and my vette. Also, it smells HOT back there. I'm assuming it's coming from the cats but, I don't believe cats normally run that hot. On the Boxter I crawled under and gave the cats a look-see, they "looked" OK. Banged on 'em with my fist and no rattles. They seem solid enough. If someone (anyone) tells me "the sound" shouldn't be, then I'm going to a shop and have the cats checked.

so the engine itself is making a stressed sound, or the induction seems to be working too hard? if the cats are going bad, youre going to notice a real drop in power...especially under load.

 

Sounds like Cats need to be replaced. Call this guy 925-682-9174 and tell him your problem he is a genious will tell you over the phone[8D]

It could just be a minor fix though
