944S reference sensor

anyone know if the wire comming out the back of the dist. housing is the wire to the reference sensor for the hall

That is the hall sensor itself.

oops hi sthe ok button too quick. The reference sensor is located on top of the bellhousing at the rear of the engine. On the S there is only one sensor, where as the NA and turbo have 2 (1 reference, 1 speed)

So, if the wire out the back of the dist. is the hall sensor, is it needed to creat spark, even if measuring straight from the coil? Also if i have pulse to the injectors does that eliminate some posible causes for no spark?

Ok, having only worked with a few of the S's, my understanding is that the hall sensor helps to control injector timing in relation to the cams. From what i can find, the car should start without the hall sender, but it will run very rough, which makes sense if it is controlling the injectors. If you have the pulse to the injectors, then that end should be fine. So then we start looking at the coil again....
