Default Buying a 996 Turbo

I am in the process of buying a 996 turbo. I heard that the 2002-2004s have less problems than the 2001 version. After an exhaustive search for a tiptronic, I have found approx. 4-5 cars total in my area (Los Angeles) that fit my requirements. A couple have more than 40k miles -- some for not a lot more, have less than 30k miles (which I am opting for),

1. Should I be so concerned about the mileage?
2. Can (should) the turbo be used as a daily driver?

My first P-car was a 1971 911T so you might say this is a serious upgrade! - Thanks
