Hey guys --

This week, my dad gave me his 1975 911S that he had in the garage for a couple decades. I am a mechanical engineer, and build mechaisms but never really worked under the hood too much. I can speak the language want this to be my first venture into my mechanic career.
It needs a new battery and an oil change. From there, I understand it has some shifting problems, he got stuck at a red light and was only able to shift into 5th and reverse. That was the last time it was physically driven.
Im looking for a starting point for learning resources. Are there any good manuals that anyone would recommend? Are there local prosche clubs or good places to learn? I figure the internet is a great resource, and dont want to sound like an obnxious noob, but have to start somewhere.

Definitely get involved with your local PCA club. They will always be a good resource.

As far as the shifting goes, I would start by replacing the bushings in the shift coupler in the center rear tunnel (under a panel behind the front seats). Then if that doesn't do it, replace the bushings in the shifter up front.

 

Doc-thanks for the tip. I bought the 101 projects for your Porsche, and did the bushing upgrade(along with the short shift kit). Shifts like a dream now.
