Hi ,I just found this site.I used own 82' 911 targa from new untill 3years ago ,I regret apart from it .It only had 30K miles always garaged and coverd.Last weekend I got to drive 01'911 ,it was so fun,and I got infected by the porsche bug again.I am sarching for my 2nd porsche,am doing some resarch.Since this is not going to be my daily driver,I dont need smooth driving 996-997.I want more raw machine.Upon resarch ,alot of peaple likes 993,esp.turbo,may be 993 C4S,and next choise 964 turbo, but I hear 964 is less reliable than 993.what is your recommandation? Thanks.

If you want raw power, you are going to need a turbo. Even a C4S feels slow, though i am a little biased when working on the big boys day in day out. Getting more power out of the 996's is easy if you like the style of the car, it is my favorite as well. I love the 930's body, but they drive like a 30 year old car. The 993 with some bigger turbos, exhaust etc can be a fun car too, though the interior doesn't feel right to me. For the 996 our 605hp kit includes better turbos, headers, intake, exhaust, and programming.....it will keep you satisfied for awhile, then you will get use to it, and need more....we can help there too

Thanks to CtiggerPigglet and porschedoc
My budget is 80K which include service and repair to bring the car up to par, and if I have $ left ,i love to do some upgrade ,such as 19'wheels ,suspension lowering coils and sports exhaust.Etc.I dont need 600Hp now ,400Hp will be good start for me. Since I live in remote Island ,I dont have chance to test drive many different models of Porsche.I only have driven my own 82 911 Sc which was fun but not powerfull enough, also it can be a little more comfortable.01'996 coupe ,it was smooth , comfortable ,and reasonabley quick but it was too smooth ,luck of some untamed edge, and 996-997 body styles are ok but I think 993, 964 has more porsche-sh style. there must be a lot of peaple think like me ,therefore 993 turbos are expensive as 01-02 996 turbos.Did Porsche not make many 993 turbos?I have not try any 993 , 993 turbo nor 996 turbo before ,So what is your impresions on comparison of those? Also what is your opinion on aftermarket powerupgrade on reg.993,964.or996 to be powerfull as factory turbo? does it devaluate the car ? does it cost more to modify than buying stock turbo?Any suggestions are greatly appliciated. Thank you

I think the 993 and 996 twin turbos are great cars, with great power to start with. Stock, they will give you a nice umph until you get use to it. In the 996 you can go with the X50 package, which is additional horsepower. It's not that porsche didnt product many 993 or 993 turbos, but they overproduced the 996 line, so while the 993's are holding their value very well, the 996's are depreciating quickly due to the supply. About the only way you will get a stock 993 or 996 NA up to par with a turbo is to put on a supercharger, which on the 996 brings it up to about the power of a stock 996TT. I have not seen a supercharger kit for the 993's yet. For reference, our supercharger kit for the 996 runs about 12k before install, so you are looking at a heafty bill to get the same power, granted you can buy a C2/C4 quite a bit cheaper than a TT. If you buy a C2/4, you are pretty much looking at leaving it the way it is powerwise unless you want to drop the bucks.

Nice thing about starting with a turbo is you start with good power, then you can upgrade in sections if you feel the need later, you can add intake, exhaust, flash the ecu, etc all in stages as you feel comfortable, as the budget allows etc. Good luck in your search!
